Kentucky Exposition Center Reopens High-Traffic Entrance with Improved Look and Function

The Kentucky Exposition Center has officially reopened Gate 4 following a multi-million-dollar renovation, transforming one of the facility’s busiest entrances along Crittenden Drive. The gate on the northwest side of the property was more than 50 years old and now provides a 21st century welcome, similar to Gates 1 & 6.

Features of the new gate:

  • Six lanes (50% increase)
  • Nine digital wayfinding signs for easier guidance
  • Largest queueing lanes of any entrance gate to reduce overflow onto nearby roads
  • Connectivity to neighboring properties with extended pedestrian area
  • Walkup booth

The gate feeds traffic into the newly installed roundabout on Circle of Champions Dr., which is another recent infrastructure improvement designed to make parking on the property more efficient.

Looking ahead, Gate 2 is the final entrance scheduled for renovation on the property. This project is expected to begin in the fall to minimize impact to the guest experience. Additionally, the Kentucky Exposition Center will implement new payment technology at gates in June that will further expedite entry and make processing easier for guests.

All of the updates are part of a larger initiative to modernize and expand the Kentucky Exposition Center, solidifying it as a premier facility for major events. Phase I of Kentucky Venues more than $460 million expansion and renovation is already underway, with the recently completed demolition of Newmarket Hall. In its place, a new 350,000-square-foot, multi-purpose facility will be constructed.
