Our agency remains fully committed to supporting the ongoing investigations into what currently appears to be a false report of an active aggressor on-site. Preliminary findings indicate that there was NOT an active aggressor on our property, and reports were false.
As part of the investigation into Sunday’s incident, we can confirm that our fire alarm system did make audible alerts in portions of the buildings. A duct smoke sensor generated the alert. Our system review is ongoing, but we wanted to confirm that the fire system is not utilized for alert purposes beyond smoke detection. The fire system is routinely inspected and complies with the State Fire Marshall’s Office & NFPA life safety standards.
We’re grateful to our law enforcement partners from around the state who responded quickly to this situation. At this time, only minor injuries were reported, which occurred when patrons exited the property.
Out of an abundance of caution, Run 4 The Roses has added additional security measures starting July 14, including metal detection and full bag searches upon entry. We’d like to ask guests and participants of the event to plan accordingly. The Ohio Basketball app presents the accurate schedules of games taking place, and we encourage attendees to follow their social media accounts for the event at @TFNsRun4Roses.
Media are encouraged to follow LMPD, Kentucky Exposition Center, and routinely check this page for official statements. Our office remains fully supported for on-site activities across our campus. Media wishing to be at the event must contact Ky Venues Communications Staff.
For anyone looking to report an injury or lost property, they may fill out a form here.

We are grateful for the swift and coordinated response from the Louisville Metro Police Department, our on-site security personnel, and public safety officials across the city. Their immediate action to search and secure the building ensured the safety of everyone on our campus.
Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our guests, staff, and partners. We appreciate your patience and support as we continue working with law enforcement.
The investigation, led by LMPD, is ongoing, and we encourage everyone to follow updates from @LMPD, our official account @kyexpocenter, and the event organizer @TFNsRun4Roses on X.
